About the Production AI Institute

PAI is an independent body that maintains the Production Safety Framework — the practitioner-developed standard for deploying AI systems safely in production environments.

Our mission

AI systems are being deployed in production environments at a pace that has outrun the development of professional standards. Practitioners are making consequential decisions about data governance, human oversight, and incident response without a shared vocabulary for what "good" looks like.

PAI’s mission is to establish and maintain that shared vocabulary through the Production Safety Framework, and to provide a public, independent means of verifying that practitioners and organisations meet it.

We are not a model vendor or cloud platform, and we do not accept sponsorship from model providers or cloud platforms. PAI also publishes practitioner tooling and commercial programmes, but those do not determine the standard, Lab findings, or assessment criteria.
