Microsoft Copilot (consumer)

User-controlled

Microsoft says consumer Copilot, Bing, and MSN interaction data may be used to train generative AI models unless the signed-in user is excluded or has opted out.

Training use

Except for excluded categories and opted-out users, Microsoft may use de-identified consumer Copilot conversations and related Bing/MSN activity to train generative AI models.

How to opt out

Signed-in users can opt out of model training in Copilot privacy settings. Microsoft states that organisational Entra ID accounts, Microsoft 365 Copilot conversations, users under 18, and users in listed regions are excluded from that training path.

Private content

Microsoft distinguishes consumer Copilot training from Microsoft 365 Copilot and organisational accounts. Uploaded-file conversation context may still be in scope even where images are de-identified.

Retention

The Privacy FAQ explains training eligibility and controls more clearly than one universal retention period for every Copilot surface.

Human review

The cited FAQ focuses on training eligibility, de-identification, and opt-out rather than one general human-review statement.
