OpenAI API Platform

No training by default

OpenAI says data sent to the API is not used to train or improve OpenAI models unless the organisation explicitly opts in to share data.

Training use

API inputs and outputs are excluded from model training by default. Eligible organisations can separately opt in to share data for improvement.

How to opt out

No opt-out is required for the stated baseline. Confirm the organisation and project are not opted into data sharing, and review Zero Data Retention or Modified Abuse Monitoring eligibility if needed.

Private content

OpenAI says business and API content remains owned by the customer and is handled under its business privacy commitments, separate from consumer ChatGPT treatment.

Retention

By default, abuse-monitoring logs can retain customer content for up to 30 days. Application state, stored completions, files, vector stores, and other stateful endpoints can retain data longer until deleted or configured otherwise.

Human review

Abuse monitoring and safety review can involve review of logged content; eligible customers may apply for modified monitoring or zero-retention controls.
