The assessment process

A structured, evidence-based audit against PSF v1.1. The criteria, rubric, and issued verification records are designed to be inspectable.

1
Apply
Submit your application with a brief description of your AI systems in scope. We respond within 2 business days.
2
Scoping call
30-minute call with a PAI assessor to agree scope, timeline, and evidence requirements.
3
Workflow mapping
Use the PAI Workflow Studio to map your in-scope AI deployments. PAI provides pre-built DSA templates for each PSF domain. ~4 hours of self-service work.
4
Evidence submission
Submit workflow maps plus supporting evidence: monitoring dashboards, incident logs, runbooks, data handling documentation.
5
Assessor review
A PAI reviewer assesses your submission against the PSF rubric within 5 business days. Each domain scored against published criteria.
6
Mark issued
Pass threshold met: your Production Safe mark is issued, a public verification record is created, and badge assets are delivered.
Timeline: From application to mark issued in 10–15 business days for a standard assessment. Expedited 5-day assessment available at 50% surcharge. Failing companies receive a detailed gap report and one free reassessment within 90 days.

Why this matters now

Why not just say we follow PSF in our security questionnaire?
Self-attestation may be enough for some contexts. Where a reviewer needs external assurance, an independent assessment gives them something inspectable beyond a private claim.
How does this relate to SOC 2?
SOC 2 covers general software security controls. It says nothing about AI-specific risks: prompt injection, hallucination, model drift, third-party model dependencies, or human oversight design. The PAI Production Safe mark is the AI-specific complement to SOC 2, not a replacement.
What about the EU AI Act?
The EU AI Act requires high-risk AI systems to demonstrate conformity with technical standards. PAI PSF v1.1 maps to the Act's requirements for risk management, data governance, transparency, and human oversight. We publish the full mapping document. The DSA supports your AI Act compliance posture.
Who are the assessors?
PAI assessors review submissions against the published rubric and the agreed assessment scope. The issued verification record identifies the organisation, mark status, and PSF scores; supporting review details are provided through the assessment process.
What if we fail?
You receive a detailed gap report identifying exactly which PSF criteria were not met and what evidence would be needed. One free reassessment is included within 90 days. The gap report is confidential and is not published.
