CREDENTIAL GUIDE

What Is a Certified AI Integrator?

Certified AI Integrator is an organisational credential issued by Production AI Institute to companies that meet a verified standard for deploying AI in production. Where individual certifications assess practitioners, the Integrator credential assesses the organisation itself — its processes, controls, and team capability as a whole.

Who It Is For

The Certified AI Integrator credential is designed for organisations that deploy AI systems on behalf of clients or embed AI into their own products. This includes managed service providers, systems integrators, software development firms, and consultancies offering AI implementation services.

It is not a practitioner certification. Individuals seeking to demonstrate AI competency should look at the practitioner certification directory. The Integrator credential is specifically for the organisation as an entity.

What the Assessment Covers

The Integrator assessment evaluates the organisation across four dimensions:

01

Team Certification Coverage

The proportion of technical staff holding Production AI Institute certifications. A minimum threshold of certified practitioners is required before organisational assessment proceeds. This ensures the credential reflects genuine team capability, not just process documentation.

02

Deployment Process Controls

Documented evidence of production-safety controls across the eight PSF domains. Assessors review how the organisation handles input validation, output monitoring, incident response, and human oversight in client deployments.

03

Governance and Accountability

Named ownership of AI risk at the organisational level, defined escalation paths, and documented client communication standards for AI incidents. Governance cannot be purely implicit in a certified integrator.

04

Client Delivery Evidence

Demonstrated track record of AI deployments managed to the PSF standard. New organisations without delivery history undergo a structured readiness assessment in lieu of retrospective evidence.

Why It Matters in Procurement

Enterprise procurement teams are increasingly adding AI governance questions to vendor questionnaires. "Do your implementation partners hold recognised AI credentials?" is now a standard line in many RFPs. Certified AI Integrator status provides a direct, verifiable answer.

The credential is registry-verifiable at productionai.institute/verify, meaning procurement teams can confirm it independently without contacting the organisation. This matters in processes where third-party credential verification is expected.

For organisations that already hold ISO 27001 or SOC 2, the Integrator credential is additive — it specifically addresses AI deployment risk, which neither general security standard covers in depth.

How Assessment Works

The Integrator assessment is conducted remotely and typically takes two to four weeks from initial application to credential issuance, depending on how quickly the organisation can supply evidence.

The process begins with a scoping call to establish organisational context, deployment volume, and existing controls. Assessors then review submitted documentation and conduct structured interviews with technical leads and the designated AI risk owner.

Organisations that do not pass initial assessment receive a detailed gap analysis and a 90-day re-assessment window. The assessment report is provided regardless of outcome.

Relationship to Practitioner Certifications

Certified AI Integrator status and individual practitioner certifications are complementary. Organisations typically begin by certifying key staff, then pursue the organisational credential once a minimum coverage threshold is reached.

For MSPs starting from scratch, the recommended sequence is: certify all AI-adjacent technical staff at AIDA level, certify senior staff at CLOE or CAOP, then apply for the Integrator assessment. The MSP AI certification guide covers this path in detail.
